St. Joseph County Police Department

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The St. Joseph County Police were called to assist Tribal Police after a stolen car was reported at Four Winds Casino on Sunday night.  The investigation into the auto theft resulted in a 40-year-old man being charged with a long list of charges.

Authorities say the suspect, James Gaddey, was also suspected of having illegal substances and a firearm in his possession at the time, and through collaboration with the Tribal Police, officers located the stolen vehicle in the casino parking garage, and Gaddey in the hotel lobby.

The car was unoccupied when it was located, but "In reviewing surveillance footage, Gaddey was seen in the casino hotel lobby and immediately arrested," the SJCPD said.

"A search warrant was obtained for the vehicle, and officers discovered a handgun, marijuana, prescription pills, ski masks, and lighter fluid. The keys to the stolen vehicle were also found, and the car was returned to its rightful owner."

Gaddey was formally charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Carrying of a Handgun, Criminal Mischief, Auto Theft, Intimidation, and Unlawful Possession or Use of a Legend Drug.
