UPDATE (6:22 p.m.) -- Police confirm that one person was taken to the hospital for injuries sustained in the incident and there are no life-threatening injuries.
The area will be blocked off for the next few hours.
The Violent Crimes Unit continues to investigate.
ORIGINAL: SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Police Department is responding to the report of shots fired in the 700 block of Johnson Street in South Bend at approximately 5:21 p.m.
The scene is still active with a heavy police presence, and it is asked that the public avoid the area at this time.
It is confirmed by dispatch that one person is enroute to the hospital for injuries sustained.
