SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- According to multiple sources, former Fighting Irish monster offensive guard and nine-time National Football League Pro Bowl participant Zach Martin has informed his current team, the Dallas Cowboys, that the 2024 was his last.

The 6-4, 308lb Martin was on the 2012 Notre Dame team that completed an undefeated regular season before losing to Alabama in the BCS National Championship.

He played for Notre Dame for five years after red shirting in 2009, and was a starting offensive lineman in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013.

In 2014, he was selected 16 overall in the NFL draft by the Dallas Cowboys where he spent his entire 11-year career.

He suffered the first season-ending injury of his career in Week 14 of the 2024 season when he had to have ankle surgery. That injury combined with his Cowboys contract expiring and being 34 years likely factored into his decision.

During his time in the NFL Martin was named:

  • Nine-time Pro Bowl selection (most recent in 2023)
  • Seven-time First Team All-Pro selection (most recent in 2023)
  • Pro Football Hall of Fame team All-2010s Team
