UPDATE: LaGrange lifts boil water order Monday

MGN

UPDATE: The Town of LaGrange announced Monday that its boil water order from March 11's water main break has been lifted.

Town officials say the bacteria tests came back from the lab, and the water is free from harmful microbes.

Residents are also being reminded that when water service is restored, it's common for some air to be in the pipes, requiring you to run the water for a bit to restore pressure in the line.

Officials say the water may also appear "milky" due to the extra air in the line and should clear on its own.

ORIGINAL STORY: LAGRANGE, Ind. -- Residents living in the area of Gum Street and Church Street in Lagrange have been given a Boil Water Notice until further notice.

Bring tap water to a rolling boil, boil for one minute, and cool before using or use bottled water certified for sale.

Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and preparing food.

The Boil Water Notice is in effect due to a main break.

When water mains lose pressure, it increases the chance that untreated water and harmful microbes can enter your water.

Harmful microbes in drinking water can cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other symptoms and may pose a special health risk for infants, some elderly, and people with severely compromised immune systems. These symptoms are not just caused by microbes in drinking water.

If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you should seek medical advice.

On Tuesday, March 10, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the water line was shut down.

Residents will be informed when tests show that they no longer need to boil water.

The Town of LaGrange expects the boil order to be lifted by the end of the day on Friday, March 13.
