Body of missing Michigan man discovered

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. – On Saturday, members of the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office, the Niles Township Fire Department, and the Niles City Fire Department located the body of a deceased male, who appears to be Garen Collins.

The body was located in a wooded area and was approximately 100 yards away from the Dowagiac River.

There were no obvious signs of foul play.

Medical Examiners and members of the Sherriff’s office processed the scene and body for any potential evidence in order to determine the cause of death.

The deceased body was transported to the Western Michigan University Homer R. Stryker Medical Examiner’s Office. An autopsy is scheduled to positively identify the deceased individual.

Based on information provided to the investigators by family members, it is believed that the individual is Garen Collins.

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office worked in conjunction with the Niles Township Fire Department and the Niles City Fire Department in searching to locate the missing individual. The search was extensive and lasted several days.
