Black Lives Matter South Bend calling for temporary removal of Sharon McBride
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - New calls for the President of the South Bend Common Council to step aside over accusations of overtime abuse and other issues at the DuComb Center.
Black Lives Matter South Bend saying that the call for Sharon McBride's removal is solely based on her performance and behavior, not her gender and race.
I reached out to McBride for comment on the call for her temporary removal, but she has not returned my request.
Part of the investigation surrounds McBride's mother, who works as a kitchen director and made 6 figures, earning more than $45,000 in overtime pay.
McBride was questioned by an attorney during Tuesday's commissioners meeting where she called out the questioning saying she wasn't given adequate time to prepare.
Now, Black Lives Matter South Bend thinks it is in McBride's best interest to step aside from her position on the common council until the investigation is complete.
“We do know they are just allegations at this time, but if that is the case, then we don't trust these politicians that are in these positions, and they are abusing their power," said Redding, an organizer with BLM.
I did reach out to all three county commissioners.
Derek Dieter did get back to me saying he declined to comment on the situation as this is an ongoing investigation.
The board of commissioners is now urging anyone with any information to come forward.
