BioBlitz at Spicer Lake Nature Preserve

St. Joseph County Parks is hosting BioBlitz on Saturday, June 9 from 8am to 3pm at Spicer Lake Nature Preserve in New Carlisle. A BioBlitz is a festival, an educational program, and a scientific study all combined into a one-day event, in an effort to count all the plant and animal species at a designated location.

BioBlitz has been designed to promote public awareness of native plants and animals as well as enabling scientists to collect data. This data will aid the park with conservation and resource management. In addition, any new research about the plants and animals living in the park can be incorporated into interpretive programs.

Be a part of Citizen Science by helping us collect data! At 8am join members of the South Bend-Elkhart Audubon Society for a bird hike. Park staff also welcome participants at 11am for pond scooping or at 1pm for insect sweeping.

Spicer Lake Nature Preserve is located 8 miles north of Bendix Woods on County Line Road (north), just off of SR 2. For more information call 574/654-3155.
