BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- Several Berrien County residents spoke out on Monday about the rise in youth-related violence throughout the area.
Sunday around 2 AM, a 22-year-old man was shot and killed near a party around the intersection of Broadway and Emery Avenue. on Thursday, September 5, police arrested two suspects in the injury shooting of a 15-year-old boy at the Berrien Homes complex.
Despite there reportedly being hundreds of people near the party, when the Sunday shooting happened, no witnesses have come forward so far, and there are no suspects in custody.
ABC57’s Dante Stanton spoke with several neighbors near the site of Sunday’s shooting on Monday, with most of them saying the neighborhood is filled with older folks who don’t get involved in the parties.
Both neighbors that we spoke with point to problems within the youth community as the main cause of the violence in the area.
ABC57 will have live continuing coverage of the ongoing issues, which will be addressed during a news conference Tuesday in Benton Harbor.
