Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety investigating deadly fire

BENTON HARBOR, Mich.-- The Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety is investigating a fire that killed three people on Sunday morning.

Officials say they responded to the fire at 185 Bellview Street just before 5 a.m.

Firefighters attempted to head into the building to search for occupants, but the heat and flames prevented the firefighters from entering the building.

Shortly after, the second floor of the duplex collapsed onto the first floor.

The victims of the deadly fire include a 30-year-old woman, a 15-year-old boy, and a 12-year old girl.

All are expected to be family members.

The father survived and is being treated for smoke inhalation and a minor injury.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the BHDPS and the Michigan State Police Fire Marshal.

BHDPS was assisted by the Benton Township Fire Department and St. Joseph Department of Public Safety.
