Authorities find bloody needle on man arrested on multiple drug charges

ELKHART, Ind. -- A Michigan man is behind bars in Elkhart after he ran a stop sign on a motorized bicycle, fled from police, was found with a long list of drugs and paraphernalia.
The arrest report states that an Elkhart Police Department officer was in an unmarked car parked near the intersection of Cone Street and Sunset Avenue in Elkhart on July 15 when 38-year-old Steven Zick rode his gas-modified electric bike through the stop sign at the intersection.
A pursuit was initiated, and authorities say Zick stopped for a brief period, apologized to the officer for running the stop sign, and then continued on his bike.
After Zick began weaving through parking lots and people's yards, the pursuit was called off as Zick was heading north on Johnson Street.
A short time later, Zick was seen by other officers in the area of Johnson Street and C.R. 6. While continuing to flee, Zick fell to the ground where he was apprehended by officers.
"A blue back pack was removed from Zick and was searched ... a small red zipper case was located," court documents show.
"Inside the red case were two hypodermic needles, a glass jar containing suspected marijuana wax, a vaporizer, a baggie containing suspected marijuana, a baggie suspected meth. Also located in the back pack was a loaded syringe thar appeared to have blood in it with needle and also a glass pipe containing residue."
Zick was taken by ambulance to Elkhart General Hospital for minor cuts and scrapes from falling off the motorized bicycle.
He is being held without bail on the following charges:
- Possession of Methamphetamine ;
- Unlawful Possession of Syringe - Level 6 Felony
- Resisting Law Enforcement-uses a vehicle - Level 6 Felony
- Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Bodily Injury the accident is one involved - Misdemeanor
- Possession of Marijuana - Misdemeanor
- Possession of Paraphernalia; Introducing a Controlled Substance into Body - Misdemeanor
Zick also had an active warrant through the Elkhart County Sheriff's Office for Possession of Meth, Possession of Marijuana and, Possession of Hypodermic Needle.
He's due back in court on October 1st.
