MICHIGAN CITY, Ind.— Michigan City Police collected over 100 guns at a two-day gun drive Saturday.
The goal of the drive was to provide an easy way for people to rid themselves of unwanted guns to avoid situations where they are not properly stored or accounted for.
Authorities say nationwide, nearly 500,000 guns are are stolen yearly from households where they are not properly secured.
According to a press release from Chief Mark Swistek, over 145 guns were collected to be destroyed so that they could not re-enter circulation.
