Author Ivan Maisel visits South Bend to spotlight legendary Frank Leahy
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The History Museum in South Bend hosted a signing event on Dec. 14 for Ivan Maisel, the author of American Coach: Frank Leahy.
Maisel was a Notre Dame Coach between 1941 to 1953 and has the second-best winning percentage. The author was invited by the History Museum to help pitch and promote the Rockne exhibition.
The Knute Rockne exhibition not only told Rockne's History, but they also had some of Rockne's belongings in display as well as old Notre Dame Football gear from 100 years ago.
" I wrote a biography of Frank Leahy because I had done some research in which I noticed he had the second-best winning percentage in the history of college football to Rockne. And whereas everybody knows who Rockne is, and he was, and always will be, an iconic figure in American history, Frank Leahy, whose record was almost virtually identical, has pretty much slipped through the cracks, and there's been very little written about him. He's been dead for more than 50 years, and he just was there's very little out there about him. So, I decided it would be a good fun project and a good thing to do to bring him back." states author Ivan Masiel.
