BERRIEN SPRINGS, Mich. --  A man accused of robbing a gas station and firing a gun was arrested early Sunday morning after allegedly leading police on a short pursuit that ended in the St. Joseph River.

Berrien Springs Township officers were first dispatched to the BP gas station off Highway 31 after receiving reports of an armed robbery involving gunfire.

According to police, 39-year-old Joshua Bevans entered the store with a pistol and fired a shot past an employee. No one was injured in the incident, and employees reported that no property was damaged. Bevans allegedly fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.

Two hours later, officers located Bevans at the Speedway gas station about two miles down the road. That’s when a vehicle pursuit began, heading toward South Main Street.

Police say the chase ended shortly after, when Bevans drove through a dead end and crashed into the St. Joseph River after breaching concrete barriers.

Bevans was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the Berrien County Jail.
