NOW: Argos student killed in crash Saturday afternoon

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. -- A student from Argos schools was killed and three others were injured in a crash that happened Saturday afternoon, according to the Marshall County Sheriff's Office.

At 4:37 p.m. on Saturday, Marshall County deputies were called to US 31 and 18th Road for a two vehicle accident.

The initial investigation found a Chrysler Sebring was heading eastbound on 18th Road when it failed to yield at the intersection with US31 and collided with a Volkswagen Tiguan that was traveling southbound US 31, deputies said.

The driver of the Chrysler, 16-year-old Emily Carr, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Carr had one passenger with her.

The driver of the Tiguan had two passengers in the vehicle.

Deputies said two passengers were transported to the hospital by helicopter and a third passenger was to the hospital taken by ambulance. They did not specify which passengers were flown and which was taken by ambulance.

The crash remains under investigation.

Argos Fire, Argos EMS, Argos PD, Plymouth EMS, MedFlight, Samaritan, Indiana DNR and Indiana State Police assisted at the scene.

Argos schools released the following statement to students and staff and the community:

Today all Argos hearts are grieving with the tragic passing of one of our students, Emily Carr. As we strive to work through this shocking event, we will need time to process and to grieve.

On Monday, the Auditorium Lobby will be open for classmates and friends of Emily to meet, talk and grieve as we strive to make sense of this loss. Argos Schools will have extra counselors available as needed and time will be available to all as needed.

The Teachers, Administration, Staff, and the Community will be present to help you during this very difficult time.
