ACLU of Indiana responds to decision on Indiana's gender-affirming care ban

On Thursday, a stay was issued by the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals that lifts a lower court’s injunction blocking Indiana’s gender-affirming care ban.

The law was set to take effect on July 1, 2023, but will now take effect immediately.

The law prohibits medical providers from providing gender-affirming healthcare to transgender youth.

The American Civil Liberties Union, the ACLU of Indiana issued the following joint statement:

“This ruling is beyond disappointing and a heartbreaking development for thousands of transgender youth, their doctors, and their families. As we and our clients consider our next steps, we want all the transgender youth of Indiana to know this fight is far from over and we will continue to challenge this law until it is permanently defeated, and Indiana is made a safer place to raise every family.”
