NOW: Michiana drivers share their thoughts about the current gas prices

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Some Michiana residents are fed up with the high cost of gas, and ready to share their thoughts.

Abraham, South Bend Resident

"The price of California and you live in South Bend."

"I don't know exactly what's going on over there, but we... got affected over here. I don't know, because maybe that's the war or the OPEC playing some games or something... I never know, the guy's price is too high."

Mansorah Kermani, Millersburg Resident

"It's jumped up about $1.50 since a few days ago. And yeah, you know, Donald Trump said that the oil prices were going to go down, but hey, they're going up. And you know, I don't think he's very transparent about why, either, with all the Strait of Hormuz stuff going on... and we can kind of try to... figure out what's going on by looking at rising prices, especially in oil, as well as the stock market. So, you know, if our government lies to us, at least our economy won't."

"Obviously, because there's a war going on, but you know whether that war had to happen or not is a question to answer, right? And you know, I'm sure that this is a good market opportunity for people that profit from oil prices going up too. So, you know, Saudi Arabia, UAE, all that stuff, board of peace in Gaza, all the people that profit from oil, you know, and Americans are paying the price for it."

"...I think that we need to address the root of the problem, which is the actual rising gas prices...  I think it lies with the government and the people who have stakes in oil and... insider trading and things like that, because it really shouldn't be this high. And I'm saying there's external parties that are profiting off of this, and probably selling oil at a higher price, so that Americans aren't benefiting as much as the people that are super rich and just keep getting rich because nobody says anything."

"I would say, stop with the cover ups. You know, put some accountability on our government, instead of hiding from them because you're scared of them, because there's power in numbers and speaking your truth, speaking up for Americans, instead of, you know, shying away and putting money in the pockets of the people that don't care about us, then that can kind of build that kind of pressure."

"Yeah. I mean, I know it can be easy to feel powerless when you're working in a small local district, but that's why that's why everybody needs to kind of rally together."

"I have a lot of hope for America, but I just don't think that that, from what we're seeing, that our government really cares that much about us, at least the ones at the very top. I know that there are good people, you know, and locally, but I just think that the money and power should be for the people and not just hoarded by people at the top that benefit from wars and struggles."

Joe & Isabel, South Bend Residents

"They're too high, way too high. They need to be lowered, for sure."

"Why am I going to the gas station? I'm seeing almost $5 a gallon. In reality, I should be coming up here for two, three dollars. No. What is he doing? Trump? Come on now, $5 is too high. Way too high."

"Me, as a citizen who pays taxes, who has a right to be here, I think that you need to lower it and make it better for the people who are struggling, people are hungry, people don't have places to sleep, and you need to make it better for the people who are struggling here... you need to make it better for the people who are paying you, doing what they're supposed to do, paying taxes as they should. Way too many people are hungry and struggling right now, and gas alone ain't helping nobody, right?"

Corey Gould, South Bend Resident

"Kind of crazy. Kind of high, like, almost $5, right? Like, that's kind of a lot."

Mike Slaski, Cassopolis Resident

"Trump got us into a really deep hole that he can't dig us out of, and he ought to be fired. Hopefully in the next election, he will be."

"I think that he's stirred up the middle east into another long war that we'll probably get involved in, and he betrayed the people that voted for him. They voted for him on the promise that he would keep us out of wars... long, protracted idiot wars."

"Vote Democrat this time, guys, please."
