UPDATE: Failure to yield at US 31 and S.R. 10 leaves 80-year-old driver dead

UPDATE: The Marshall County Sheriff's Department reports deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of US 31 and S.R. 10 in Argos on Sunday around 4:04 p.m.

Authorities state in the report that Ziert was traveling west on S.R. 10 and crossed US 31, at which point deputies say she failed to yield to a 2011 Nissan Versailles, driven by a 48-year-old man, traveling south on US 31.

The man was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend with minor injuries.

Ziert died while receiving treatment at Saint Joseph Hospital in Plymouth.

ORIGINAL STORY: ARGOS, Ind. -- On Sunday, at approximately 8:12 p.m., the Marshall County Coroner’s Office was notified of a death in the Emergency Room of St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth. 

The deceased was the driver of a 2024 Nissan, identified as 80-year-old Carol Ziert of Culver.

The report states Ziert was driving a 2024 Nissan west on S.R. 10 and entered the path of a southbound vehicle on US 31 in Argos.

According to the coroner, Ziert died from multiple blunt force injuries resulting from the crash.

Additional details regarding the crash and the other driver will be released by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.
