JASPER COUNTY, Ind. -- A 66-year-old La Porte man is dead following a single-vehicle rollover crash on I-65 at mile-marker 216 just north of the Rensselaer exit Tuesday.

The Indiana State Police report troopers responded to the scene of the crash to find it involved an SUV hauling a trailer with a boat on it.

The preliminary investigation determined a 1998 Ford SUV, driven by Charles D. Cox, was traveling south when for an unknown reason it struck the median at a high speed.

Police say this caused the trailer/boat to disconnect before coming to a stop on the median's cable barrier in the northbound side of I-65.

The SUV rolled over the cable barrier and came to a stop on its roof in the middle of the northbound lanes.

Cox was ejected from the SUV and was pronounced dead at the scene.
