MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. -- A 40-year-old woman is facing several felony charges after allegedly sending nude images of herself to a teenage boy through Facebook messages.

The suspect, Shannan Hoffmann, is charged with Child Exploitation, a Level 5 Felony, Child Solicitation, a Level 5 Felony, Possession of Child Pornography, a Level 6 Felony, Dissemination of Matter Harmful to Minors, a Level 6 Felony, and Invasion of Privacy, a Misdemeanor.

Hoffmann's next status hearing is Nov. 19.

According to the probable cause affidavit in this case, an officer with the Culver Police Department responded to a home on April 23, 2025, regarding ongoing electronic communication between parties of a protective order. The parties being Hoffmann and the victim, a 15-year-old boy.

It was found Hoffmann had an active Ex Parte Order issued against her by a Marshall County court in July 2024, which was valid until July 2026.

The investigation determined Hoffmann and the victim had been communicating through Facebook Messenger. Hoffmann was 38 at this time.

The victim's mother told police she had previously discovered messages from Hoffmann on the victim's old phone which were inappropriate and sexual in nature, including what appeared to be nude images of Hoffmann.

Police learned the victim and Hoffmann had exchanged nude photos and messaged each other on a consistent basis between June 2024 and April 2025.

The victim's phone was secured as evidence and on May 28, 2025, an affidavit for a search warrant was filed in Marshall County Superior Court for Hoffmann and the victim's Facebook accounts. Investigators then inspected the messages in detail.

When investigators spoke with Hoffmann on July 13, 2025, she said she knew the protective order prevented her from communicating with the victim and acknowledged he was 15.

Hoffmann told police the two were originally chatting as just friends. Hoffmann added the victim asked her for nude images, to which she obliged, but stated she didn't know why she sent them. Hoffmann also admitted to being sent nude images of the victim and saving them to her phone before later deleting them.

Hoffmann told investigators she didn't believe her actions to be appropriate.

Hoffmann revealed the victim had been to her apartment to look at trading cards, during which she said the victim touched her while the two were clothed.

Hoffmann's phone was collected as evidence in the case and a search warrant was obtained for it.
