22-year-old arrested for domestic battery and firearm charge

UPDATE: On May 12, 2025, Austin Jones was sentenced to 18 months in the Indiana Department of Corrections with the full sentence being executed on in-home detention with electronic monitoring via the Fulton County Community Corrections Program.

Jones had charges of felony Criminal Recklessness  (shooting a firearm into a building) and misdemeanor Domestic Battery dismissed.

He entered into a plea agreement on the charge of felony Resisting Law Enforcement (defendant draws a weapon).

SEPT. 4, 2024 ORIGINAL: FULTON COUNTY, Ind. -- The Fulton County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to a 911 call from a woman stating she needed help, while dispatchers could hear someone yelling in the background before hanging up, on Tuesday around 8:05 p.m.

Deputies then arrived at the address in the 1800 north block of C.R. 600 W. and met with the caller.

She explained there was a domestic violence situation.

Deputies then proceeded to the residence and made contact with 22-year-old Austin Jones, of Rochester.

During the interaction in the driveway near the road, deputies say Jones walked back towards the residence.  Authorities say that's when they heard several gun shots.

Several more deputies responded to assist and a short time later, Jones surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.

Jones was taken for medical clearance at Woodlawn Hospital before being booked in the Fulton County Jail.

Jones is charged with Criminal Recklessness with a Firearm, Domestic Battery, Resisting Law Enforcement, and Intimidation.

Officers with the Rochester Police Department and the Indiana State Police were also on scene.
