17-Acre wild land fire in Niles Township Michigan

NILES TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- On Sunday, around 12:30 p.m.,what started as a small brush fire became wildly out of control, spreading to a large pile of trees and the woods behind it.

The fire that eventually spread across 17 acres of land was extinguished by a large team of firefighters from Pokagon, Bertrand, Berrien Springs, Howard Township, Buchanan Township, and the City of Niles.

While the fire was extinguished after only about an hour, a handful of firefighters remained at the scene to make sure the fire did not reignite.

More investigation will be done at the scene.  There is a possibility the land owner may have to pay for the services in putting out the fire.
