NOW: YOUR VOICE, YOUR VOTE: Tracking La Porte County prosecutor primary election

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- In the La Porte County prosecutor race, incumbent Sean Fagan is being challenged by Chuck Watterson IV.

Both candidates are putting an emphasis on public safety and furthering their partnership with working alongside law enforcement.

Fagan has stated multiple times during his interview with ABC57 that aiding law enforcement, and making their jobs easier can be beneficial for the county prosecutor and for public safety.

"We've invested heavily in law enforcement in terms of technology training, new pieces of equipment, that kind of thing, that's one accomplishment that I like to talk about, because the cutting edge of law enforcement is technology, and if they can be more efficient in doing their job, with new tools, new practices, that kind of thing, they'll be able to work a case faster, greater in depth, get what they need, and synthesize everything that they need, to get to us so that we can examine it and look at it and examine it and proceed on our case," said Fagan.

For Watterson, he emphasizes his experience as an attorney and says that part of his motivation for running for the prosecutor's office is to make criminals think twice before committing a crime in La Porte County.

"We're going to make it to where criminals are afraid to commit crimes in LaPorte county again, I've said it before, and I get a lot of gruff from my colleagues, but it's too easy to be a defense attorney in LaPorte county right now. I know that, because I am one," said Watterson.
