YOUR VOICE, YOUR VOTE: Tracking Indiana Sen. District 11 Republican primary
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Indiana Senate District 11 spans parts of St. Joseph County and Elkhart County, and this race gained national attention after President Donald Trump called out incumbent Republican Linda Rogers for voting against a GOP-led redistricting effort in the statehouse last year.
Regarding her decision, Rogers stated, "When the redistricting was proposed, I heard from many, many of my constituents, and basically, they said, 'Please vote no.' When the maps came out, those voices were much louder, especially from Elkhart County. Elkhart County was split –northern and southern part of Elkhart County was Congressman Yakym's, and the center part was Congressman Stutzman. And so, they said, 'Please do not do this to us.' And so, when I looked at the maps, I realized, not only did the people of the district not want them, I thought they were very risky. And so, I stand by my decision to vote no."
Trump has also posted on Truth Social, doubling down on his support for primary challenger Dr. Brian Schmutzler, urging Hoosiers to vote for him.
ABC57 recently spoke with Schmutzler about his stance on redistricting, to which he said, "Yeah, I 100 percent would have voted for the redistricting I've seen those maps, there really was no risk to any of our current congressmen, and it would have given us two more congressmen in in the in the Federal House. And so, I think it was a huge, missed opportunity. And I think we just our state Senate just didn't understand the times. You know, we really do need as many Republican House members as possible, because we need to do that to be able to advance the America first agenda."
