Your Voice, Your Vote: Four Candidates on the ballot for District 39 State Representative in Michigan 

UPDATE: Republican incumbent candidate Pauline Wendzel has won her race against Bill Sage while Kerry Tapper won the Democratic Primary against Zachary Shinabarger for Michigan's 39th District.

ORIGINAL STORY: LANSING, Mich. -- Primary voting is underway, and residents in Michigan’s 39th Statehouse District have four candidates on the ballot.

The seat is currently held by Republican Pauline Wendzel, elected in 2023.

Running against her for the Republican nomination is Bill Sage.

For the Democratic nomination, Zachary Shinabarger and Kerry Tapper both appear on the ballot.

Kerry Tapper declined to be interviewed on camera.

Zachary Shinabarger spoke with ABC57, saying his campaign has been focused on promoting affordability. He also points to community engagement as motivation for his campaign.

“I’ve never seen Pauline Wendzel at any local events, and that’s kind of how I’m running,” Shinabarger said. “I go to as many things as I can, meet as many people as I can… at the end of the day I’m a people over profits kind of candidate.”
