Weather related I&M power outages in Berrien, St. Joseph counties

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich.—Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) has reported two power outages affecting customers in Berrien and St. Joseph counties on Wednesday.

The first outage was reported around 5:25 a.m. near Niles Township in the area of SR-933 and State Line Road affecting about 78 customers.

A crew is on scene working to restore power, which is expected to be completed by 7:30 a.m., according to I&M.

The company said the outage was caused by a piece of equipment that broke off because of the weather.

The second outage was reported at 6:22 a.m. in South Bend near the the northwest side and Holy Cross College. The outage is affecting just under 1,500 customers.

Power is expected to be restored by 10 a.m., the company said. 

I&M said the outage in South Bend is a circuit level outage but they are unsure of what caused it.
