VIDEO: Indiana House District 6 candidate debate
The American Democracy Project at IUSB and the League of Women Voters of the South Bend Area hosted a debate among the three Democratic candidates for Indiana's House District 6.
The debate was moderated by Dr. Elizabeth Bennion of the American Democracy Project.
Candidate Maureen Bauer hopes to replace her father, B. Patrick Bauer, who has held the seat since 1970. Maureen was raised in South Bend and graduated from Adams High School and IUPUI. Her platform includes healthcare equity, public school funding and protecting the environment.
Candidate Garrett Blad is a Notre Dame graduate from North Liberty. He comes from a long line of local farming families and has experience in community organizing. He’s running on a platform that includes sustaining the environment, protecting public health and investing in the city’s trade schools and unions.
Candidate Drew Duncan was born in Chicago and has lived in South Bend for the last 15 years. He graduated from Riley High School and IUSB. Duncan has served as a political organizer for local democratic candidates and says he’s learned a lot in the process. Some issues on his platform range from protecting public education to criminal justice reform and legalizing marijuana.
