On Thursday, the South Bend Fire Department released an update on the fire investigation, saying the fire is believed to have started in the floor space between the lower level and the first level sanctuary.

The fire then appeared to run up the balloon frame style construction into the mechanical room and main roof attic space, consuming the wall and most of the floor inside-out.

The department doesn't believe any foul play was involved in the fire, though the exact cause has been classified as undetermined, due to the amount of debris and unknown structural stability.
