SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Halloween is next week, and Unity Gardens is making sure everyone can enjoy it by hosting a Halloween costume drive.
Here is how it works. All you have to do is donate a costume or any old clothes, and in return, you can take a costume for yourself.
The drive has been a success although staff mentioned they would love to see more donations to give people a wider selection to choose from. The drive is happening now until the day before Halloween.
"I feel like everybody has got a box of costumes or a box of old clothing that they don't have any use for, taking up space in their house. Giving it a new life, watching somebody get really excited to wear that is something I think it'd be worth giving those costumes towards. There's nothing like having the kids go through and try on different things, look all smiley thinking about what they could be, and all their imaginations run wild," Unity Gardens Outreach and Events Coordinator Selina Alcantar said.
This comes just as Unity Gardens is preparing for its annual Spooktacular event. The event will feature a carnival made entirely from recycled materials like a bowling alley and a skee ball game.
Guests will also enjoy a haunted trail, free hot cocoa and popcorn and live music.
It will take place this Friday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
