ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- A preliminary investigation shows that an officer with the St. Joseph County Police Department was traveling south on Ironwood when another vehicle, heading north, attempted to turn onto Dunn Road and pulled into the officer’s path, causing a collision.

The driver of the other vehicle fled the scene but was located inside a nearby residence. That individual was taken into custody and transported to the hospital for further evaluation. Investigators suspect alcohol may have been a factor.

The officer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and is expected to be okay.  The scene has since been cleared, and the investigation remains ongoing.
