Two Mishawaka police officers injured after shots fired Saturday morning

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- A 32-year-old man was arrested on Saturday on charges of Criminal Recklessness with a Firearm, Resisting Law Enforcement, and Dangerous Possession of a Firearm by a convicted serious violent felon.
Early in the morning of March 22, a Mishawaka Police Department officer heard gunshots while patrolling the area of East Seventh and South Union Streets.
The officer believed the shots came from the west/northwest of him, so several officers made their way to the area and located a group of people near the intersection of West Sixth and South Spring Streets.
One of the people, later identified as William Benard Johnson, took off running and discarded a handgun in the process.
Authorities say he was caught after a brief foot pursuit.
Two officers sustained minor injuries during the chase.
