Two face drug charges after baby reportedly overdoses on fentanyl at birthday party

Jacob Lee Watkins, Icy Mae Nine

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. -- Court documents show EMS had to use Narcan after an infant came into contact with residue containing fentanyl.

The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Office was called to a residence in North Webster for an unresponsive nine-month-old girl. An officer arrived to find the infant still breathing and conscious.

EMS told the deputy they believed the girl had overdosed on fentanyl and Narcan had to be used twice to counteract the effects.

The officer spoke to the baby's mother, who said she took the child to the home for a birthday party. The children there were brought colored pens from the homeowner's bedroom to use.

When she noticed the girl had been given a pen, it was taken away, but the nine-month-old began to have labored breathing a short time later.

The infant was taken to the hospital where she tested positive for fentanyl.

Reports show officers with the North Webster Police Department were then sent to the home to secure the scene. People were heard running around inside of the residence, so officers entered the home to preserve evidence. Officers found Jacob Lee Watkins and Icy Mae Nine in one of the bedrooms and detained them.

Officers also reported that two separate individuals that own the home were seen leaving the building multiple times. Officers were told that the homeowners contacted Watkins and Nine and told them not to answer the door and to hide.

Police later searched the home and two vehicles in the driveway after obtaining a warrant.

Several narcotic drugs and paraphernalia were located across multiple rooms including:

  • One purple pen with a white residue that tested positive for fentanyl
  • Two spoons with missing handles, one of which tested positive for fentanyl
  • A spoon with a cotton ball that tested positive for fentanyl
  • 40-50 syringes that were mostly used
  • One set of digital scales with a white residue on it
  • Numerous corner baggies with white residue
  • Two marijuana smoking pipes

DCS later arrived and took custody of two children living in the home. One child told police she slept in the room where spoons testing positive for fentanyl were found.
