Traffic stop on Indiana toll Road leads to discovery of drugs and counterfeit bills
LAGRANGE COUNTY, Ind. -- Troopers conducted a traffic stop while travelling eastbound on the Indiana Toll Road on Friday around 11:27 a.m. near mile-marker 112, according to the Indiana State Police.
Police pulled over a red Ford SUV for allegedly driving at an unsafe slow speed in the left lane.
The trooper conducting the stop says that the SUV was travelling at approximately 45 miles per hour in a 70 mile per hour zone.
While speaking to the driver of the vehicle, 25-year-old Nahgeyanna James, the responding trooper smelled the odor of raw marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, according to Indiana State Police.
After conducting a search, troopers allegedly discovered 30 grams of suspected marijuana, a pill suspected to be ecstasy and 30 counterfeit $100 bills.
Following the search, James was arrested for possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance.
The front-seat passenger, 24-year-old Chantay Green, was arrested for possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, fraud and counterfeiting.
Police also identified 26-year-old Victoria Dowells as the backseat passenger and placed her under arrest for an active warrant out of Lake County on possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance.
All three were transported to the LaGrange County Jail.
