Tigers aim to get Coach Cuba era off to winning start

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- The regular season kicks off for teams in the Great Lakes state this week, and ABC57 is getting things started with a Berrien County showdown between Benton Harbor and Berrien Springs.

It's a new era in Benton Harbor, as first-year head coach Robert Cuba takes the reins.

It's Cuba's first head coaching gig, and he's beyond ready to hit the field Friday night.

He tells ABC57 his team has put in a ton of work since last season ended, whether it be in the weight room, watching film, or just coming together as a unit.

Coach Cuba has not had the chance to see a Benton Harbor game up close, and the atmosphere Friday night is something he can't wait to experience.

Cuba says fans should be on the lookout for two players this season, guys he called leaders between the white lines.

They are senior running back and linebacker Overtus Franklin Jr. and junior wide receiver Dominick Dorsey.

Both are excited about the chance to help lead the Tigers to a winning record, and Dorsey says he's heard the whispers about Benton Harbor's wins and losses last year. He made it a point to say this year's team is different, and sure to turn some heads.

The Shamrocks and Tigers will kick things off from Filstrup Field in Benton Harbor at 7 p.m.
