Take a Seat auction raises funds for art in downtown Niles

NILES, Mich. -- The Niles Downtown Development Authority Main Street program hosted a "Take a Seat" auction.

"We were told to find a chair and paint it and just have fun," said Lisa Croteau, the program manager for the Niles Downtown Development Authority Main Street program.

The auction featured 30 different chairs with each one being painted by a different artist.

The idea of this event was back in 2004 where they auction painted chairs as well, so they decided to try it this year with different types of seats available for anyone, adult or child.

"I think we've got something in every kind of chair you could want. Every kind of take a seat you could want," said Croteau.

All chairs were donated by local artists looking to raise money for art in downtown Niles.
