SWET, MSP search warrant yields three arrests in Benton Harbor
BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- A search warrant in the COGIC Village Apartments in Benton Harbor led to the discovery of numerous drugs and the arrest of three suspects on Tuesday.
Detectives from the Southwest Enforcement West Team (SWET), in conjunction with the Michigan State Police (MSP) District Crime Prevention Squad (DCPS) and Niles Post troopers, led the search after a three-month investigation into crack and fentanyl trafficking.
The team was able to locate over an ounce of fentanyl, seven grams of crack cocaine, and 2.7 pounds of marijuana. SWET also seized several pieces of drug distribution equipment including scales and hundreds of sandwich baggies.
The three suspects, 34-year-old Martell Washington, 31-year-old Marquis Washington, and 34-year-old Naquesha Green, were all arrested on multiple felony charges and arraigned at the Berrien County Court in St. Joseph.
Children Protective Services (CPS) were summoned and took custody of the suspects’ four children present. The children’s parents face counts of 4th degree child abuse in addition to their charges of delivery/manufacturing of fentanyl, crack cocaine, marijuana and maintaining a drug house.
