Safe Paws Recovery Housing of Michiana SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Safe Paws Recovery Housing of Michiana will be hosting their first-ever Steps for Safe Paws 5K family fun walk fundraiser on June 6.
Starting at 9 a.m. at Howard Park, participants will enjoy a scenic out-and-back community walk along the East Bank Trail from Howard Park to Nile Avenue Dog Park and back. Dogs on a leash are welcome to join the free family-friendly walk. Any proceeds from the event will help support the nonprofit as it continues development efforts.
"Steps for Safe Paws is more than a walk — it is an opportunity to help expand support options for companion animals and families experiencing crisis,” said Heather Mason, founder of Safe Paws Recovery Housing of Michiana. “Right now, temporary pet care resources during times of crisis remain limited within our community. Safe Paws Recovery Housing of Michiana is working to help expand those options so individuals can access care without losing the companion animals they love.”
The event will feature a dog decompression area and complimentary Pup Cups following the walk. Several local animal resources will be at the event, including Humane Society of St. Joseph County, Ask a Vet with Dr. Covey from Kryder & Harr, The Cat Lady Café, and Paws with Hart mobile dog grooming. Lighthearted awards will be handed out at the event, including Most Spirited Pup and Best Pet & Human Duo.
Pre-registration is encouraged. The walk is free to join, with donations encouraged. Register for Steps for Safe Paws 5K Family Fun Walk at https://www.safepawsrecoveryhousing.org/ or email [email protected] for more information.
