State Police investigating officer-involved shooting in Angola
ANGOLA, Ind. - Indiana State Police is investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place on Sunday while Angola officers were investigating a homicide.
At 1:07 a.m. on Sunday morning, officers with the Angola Police Department responded to a residence in the 400 block of N. Elizabeth St. for a shots fired report.
At the scene, officers found two deceased men outside of the home, reports said.
At 5:30 a.m., Angola Police officers and an Indiana State trooper encountered a man in the 600 block of S. Elizabeth St. that matched the description of the person suspected of shooting the two men on N. Elizabeth Street.
During the encounter, the man allegedly displayed a handgun and exchanged gunfire with police.
The man then ran east on West Felicity Street.
Near the intersection of West Felicity and South Wayne streets, the man and officers shot at each other again, reports said.
The man was hit at least once during the exchange, police said.
Officers rendered aid to the man until paramedics arrived.
He was taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead.
The incident involved three Angola Police officers and one Indiana State trooper.
This incident is still under investigation.
