Starke County man found guilty of Child Molesting sentenced Monday

KNOX, Ind. -- The range of sentencing for a Level 4 Felony in the State of Indiana is two to 12 years, with the advisory sentence as six years. On May 19, a Starke County judge gave 34-year-old Aaron Brewer 10 years after he was found guilty of Level 4 Felony Child Molesting back in April.
Allegations against Brewer first surfaced in November of last year, detailing crimes committed between Sept. 1 and Nov. 30, 2021.
"On June 10, 2024, the Indiana Department of Child Services contacted the City of Knox Police Department regarding an allegation of child molestation that had taken place in the fall of 2021 when the victim was around seven to eight years of age and while in the second grade," the Starke County Prosecutor's Office said.
"The child victim explained to the forensic interviewer that the events took place while they were spending time with Aaron Brewer and he was letting them drive the family’s pick-up truck. The child victim explained that, when this happened, they were on his lap, and that he placed his hand in their private areas. The child victim also explained that they was scared of Brewer, and that was why she had not told anyone."
A jury trial was held on April 24, and Brewer was found guilty of felony Child Molestation. During the trial, Brewer chose to exercise his 5th Amendment right and declined to testify.
The attorney in the case requested the court impose an eight-year sentence, but a judge sentenced Brewer to a period of incarceration in the Indiana Department of Corrections for ten years.
Brewer indicated to the court that he intended to file an appeal.
