St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit responds to shooting on South Walnut Street

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal shooting that happened in the 600 block of South Walnut Street on Saturday at 11:23 p.m.
The CMHU identified the victim as Charles J. Miltenberger, III, a 30-year-old South Bend resident.
South Bend Police officers responded to reports of gunshots and an individual lying on the ground, according to police.
Officers were unable to resuscitate the victim. He was later pronounced dead at the scene, police say.
This is an active investigation. An autopsy will be conducted in Kalamazoo, Mich. on Monday.
