South Bend receives $18,000 grant for energy efficient street lights
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – On Thursday, South Bend received a gift that will keep on giving!
The city received $18,000 for new energy efficient street lights downtown.
The project was funded by a Wells Fargo grant.
Right now, the city spends about $85,000 a month to light the streets.
Mayor Buttigieg told us these new lights would cut that cost in half!
"What we are doing here is getting resources that allow us to pilot a technology that could save millions over the long run. We spend a lot of money to keep those lights on to keep our streets safe. If this technology not only lets us go green, but cut down on those energy costs then it’s a big win for the city,” said Mayor Buttigieg.
Another bonus? Indiana Michigan Power offered to install the new lights for free!
