SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The bench trial in the South Bend Police Tapes case began Tuesday morning and ended roughly 90 minutes later. Answers in the years-long court battle will once again have to wait.

Three intervenors to the case were called up to testify; meanwhile, the attorney representing the South Bend Common Council offered no further testimony.

Judge Jamie Woods of St. Joseph County Superior Court 6 will have both parties submit written arguments by Jan. 20, 2026.

Closing arguments are currently scheduled for March 5, 2026, then Woods has 90 days to rule on all pending matters.
