NOW: Overnight shooting leaves two dead, two in critical condition

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — South Bend Police say two people were killed and two others were injured in a shooting near Frederickson, Huey and Johnson streets.

Just before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, ShotSpotter alerted to gunshots fired in the 800 block of Huey.

There were several officers in the area at the time and heard the shots. Officers located several people at the corner of Frederickson and Huey as well as a vehicle that had crashed.

One person in the vehicle was dead of apparent gunshot wounds, police said. He was identified as 25-year-old Anton James Jr.

Another deceased victim, 29-year-old Damon Bethel, was found in the 2100 block of Frederickson. Bethel had also been shot.

Two other people with gunshot wounds were transported to the hospital in critical condition. They were identified as 24-year-old Alyssa Sanchez and 34-year-old Joshua Sage.

The County Metro Homicide Unit was activated and took over the investigation.

Police arrested two people during the investigation.

Ronald Snyder Jr, 40, was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver.

Robert Brady Jr, 37, was arrested on a preliminary charge of felon in possession of a firearm.

A nearby resident described hearing the shooting.

“It sounded like freaking fireworks going off under my living room window," said Jenny Woolley. "It freaks me out. You know, I've lived here a little over a year and this is the worst thing that’s ever happened here."
