South Bend Police make arrest in connection to Diamond Street shooting

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – South Bend Police have made an arrest in connection to a shooting on the 1200 block of Diamond Street that left a 27-year-old injured.

Jacquese Thomas was arrested for Battery with a Deadly Weapon, Criminal Recklessness and carrying a handgun without a license.

The South Bend Police Department Investigative Bureau is working with the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office and looks filing formal charges, according to their Facebook page.

SBPD’s Shooting Response Team responded along with the Strategic Focus Unit. The preliminary investigation shows that the victim was allegedly shot by Thomas after an argument.

The victim of the shooting was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

UPDATE: In February 2022, Thomas pleaded guilty to criminal recklessness and carrying a handgun without a license as part of a plea agreement. The battery by means of a deadly weapon charge was dismissed. Thomas was sentenced to 365 days at the county jail with 362 days suspended.
