South Bend flushing hydrants through October for maintenance

MGN

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The City of South Bend is flushing fire hydrants for annual routine maintenance through October to prevent stagnation and ensure the hydrants are ready in case of fires.

During the flushing, the City of South Bend wants residents to know they should check icemakers and clothes washers for sediment before use, remove screens and rinse out faucets that seem clogged, and if tap water appears red, brown, or blackish, run three cold-water faucets at full stream until it runs clear.

During the week of June 1 through 5, the city plans to flush the areas bordered by Eddy Street to the west, Jefferson Boulevard to the west, Logan Street to the east, and the St. Joseph River to the south.
