South Bend Cubs announce 2022 coaching staff
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The South Bend Cubs have announced the coaching staff for the 2022 season, including a new manager and other new and returning faces.
New to Four Winds Field this season is manager Lance Rymel, who comes to South Bend from Arizona, where he won the league title managing the Mesa Solar Sox in the 2021 Arizona Fall League.
This is Rymel’s seventh season as a coach or manager in the Cubs organization, which includes his time with the Cubs Dominican Summer League in 2017-18. Rymel also played catcher in the Cubs chain from 2012 to 2014.
Also new to the South Bend Cubs is Dan Puente, the team’s hitting coach. 2022 marks Puente’s third season in the Cubs farm system; Puente was the hitting coach for low-A Myrtle Beach in 2021.
Beginning his second year as a trainer in the Cubs organization and his first in South Bend is Aaron (Seth) Clapp. Clapp was the Athletic Trainer for the Rookie League ACL Cubs in 2021.
Joining the Cubs organization as the Strength and Conditioning Coach is Dominick Patry-Tremblay. Patry-Tremblay comes to South Bend following his run as a Strength and Conditioning Coach at Actiforme Kin + Physio in Quebec.
Finally, South Bend welcomes D’Angelo Jiménez as the bench coach this season. This is his fifth season overall in the organization. Jiménez was previously the hitting coach for the DSL Cubs in 2021.
Returning to the Cubs this season is Tony Cougoule, who returns for his second year as pitching coach and third year overall with the Chicago Cubs.
The South Bend Cubs kick off their 2022 season on April 8 against the Quad Cities River Bandits.
