South Bend Alive grant program recipients announced

Ripples In The Water - The Barbara V. Brandy Foundation ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – The city of South Bend awarded a total of $343,000 to 50 local organizations today as part of its new South Bend Alive grant program.

The grant program supports initiatives that provide mentoring for young people in the city through efforts such as employment training and opportunities, youth engagement activities, and community outreach.  

“I want to thank all of the applicants for their efforts to keep our kids and our community safe,” said Mayor James Mueller. “It’s up to us to break the cycles of violence that we see in South Bend, and I’m excited that the City can empower local organizations to continue their important work or kickstart new initiatives.”

Money for the grants comes from the $300,000 former mayor Pete Buttigieg got the Common Council to set aside in the 2020 city budget for violence prevention grants.

The city received 122 applications, and the following organizations were awarded grants ranging from $5,000 to $25,000:
