Snowmobiler found dead after shooting in South Bend

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – Officers arrived to a scene to discover a snowmobile idling and a man who had apparently suffered a gunshot wound or wounds on Saturday around 6:51 p.m., according to the South Bend Police Department.

Officers arrived to the scene on the 1200 block of N. Brookfield Street in South Bend. The officers were unable to resuscitate the victim. The victim passed away at the scene, according to officers.

A representative of the St. Joseph County Coroner Office was contacted to the scene. The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit later identified the victim to be Eugene R. Scott, a 22-year-old South Bend resident.

This is an active death investigation.
