Single car crash in LaGrange County claims life of Michigan man
LAGRANGE COUNTY, Ind. --- Indiana State Police have identified the victim of a single vehicle fatal crash as Daniel T. Olson, 67, of Sturgis, Michigan.
On Saturday night around 8:30 p.m., troopers responded to the crash near the 128mm on the I-80/90 Toll Road in LaGrange County.
Troops found a 2014 Buick Enclave with heavy damage when they got to the scene. Olson was found laying unresponsive in the side ditch, according to police. Life saving measures were performed on scene with the help of LaGrange County EMS, but were unsuccessful. Police said Olson was pronounced dead by the LaGrange County Coroner.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Olson has been traveling eastbound when the vehicle hit the outside guardrail, then crossed the grass median and struck the inside guardrail of the westbound lanes, police said. The vehicle then crossed the westbound lanes, crashed into the outside westbound guardrail, rolled over and came to rest in the shoulder, according to police. Police said Olson was the only person in the car at the time of the crash. Olson was unrestrained, which caused him to be ejected from the vehicle, police said.
Police said there was no immediate evidence to suggest that alcohol or drugs were a factor. An autopsy has been scheduled.
