Shooting on Prairie Avenue leaves one teen dead, homicide investigation underway

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A homicide investigation is underway, according to the South Bend Police Department, following a shooting at Prairie Apartments that claimed the life of a 15-year-old boy.

Officials confirmed a call to dispatch came in at 6:55 p.m. with reports of a shooting near the 2600 block of Prairie Avenue in South Bend Thursday.

Police responded to the scene immediately, where the teen was pronounced deceased from apparent gunshot wounds, officials said.

The name of the victim is being withheld until next-of-kin have been notified.

The SBPD's Violent Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation, according to authorities.
