Shooting in South Bend kills one woman

UPDATE:  On August 25, 2023, police charged 18-year-old Quadir Quiroz with murder in connection with the death of Ashanti Hines.

ORIGINAL STORY: 

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- St. Joseph County dispatch confirmed they received a call at 9:58 p.m. on Wednesday for a shooting on the 1000 block of Yukon Street that resulted in the death of a woman.

When officers arrived on scene they found numerous shell casings and two parked vehicles that had been struck by gunfire. 

In one of the vehicles, police officers found a woman in the driver seat with apparent gunshot wound injuries. Paramedics and officers were unable to revive the woman and she was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The victim has been identified as 19-year-old Ashanti Hines of South Bend. 

The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit is at the scene to investigate this shooting.

At this time there is no suspect information and no arrests have been made. 

The investigation of this case is ongoing.
